Data methodology & inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria
Events are included where there is at least one credible open-source report — an official Ukrainian military or intelligence statement, verified video evidence, or reporting by two or more independent outlets. Russian acknowledgement is noted where it exists but is not required for inclusion.
Damage classification
A consistent taxonomy is applied across all entries. Sunk = total loss, vessel confirmed on seabed. Destroyed = total loss confirmed on land or in air. Damaged = partial damage, target operational or repairable. Shot Down = aerial asset destroyed in flight. Disrupted = infrastructure or operation temporarily put out of action.
Personnel casualty figures
This tracker uses Mediazona/BBC News Russian confirmed-by-name figures as its primary KIA metric — the most rigorous publicly available methodology, cross-checked against Russia's National Probate Registry. These figures are always a floor, not a ceiling. Statistical estimates from Meduza/Mediazona's probate registry model are cited alongside for context.
